Board of Missions and Church Extension

logobomThe Board of Mission and Church Extension of The Roanoke District Virginia Conference of the Methodist Church was formed in 1948 for the purpose of organization of schools, aid of weak churches, acquisition of real estate and building new churches, promotion of social works, and support of mission and institutions for the relief of those in need.  As times and church structure have changed the Board of Missions and Church Extension of the Roanoke District, Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church retains these core objectives and is the vehicle for supporting local churches and community organizations that fill those objectives.  Traditionally grant applications are received once a year in January for all programs and projects and are reviewed by the Executive committee.  Recommendations are then voted on at an Annual Meeting in March.  The Board of Missions members consist of one lay and one clergy representative from each charge.

2020 Grant Application-PDF is available.  (A Word document can be emailed, by request).  Sorry, the application process for this year is closed -- all applications were due January 31, 2020.

Builder's Club

The goal of the Builder's Club is to help build, expand and renovate church facilities in the Roanoke District.  Each Builder's Club member is asked to commit to responding to calls for contributions, with two calls per year approved by the Board of Missions of the Roanoke District.  The commitment can be changed or canceled at any time.  A detailed brochure is available HERE and a video about a church who was helped by the Builders' Club, is available HERE.

Choosing The Faithful Path

The Roanoke UMC District invited Rev. Beth and Kelly Crissman, coaches for Plowpoint, Inc. to come and train a small group of district clergy and laity who have agreed to use their time and gifts to assist some of our local church in examining their growth, vitality and future path.  The program called, Choosing the Faith Path, and its companion, Conversations at the Crossroads, will be offered to local churches.

Churches are welcome to participate -- we welcome your inquiries at or 540-989-3335.  Descriptions of the programs are available HERE.
