Prayers for Wesley Foundation at Virginia Tech

Posted 16 August, 2021 by Rev J. Douglas Forrester

Dear friends in Christ,

Please join me in praying for the Rev. Bret Gresham and the students and leadership of the Wesley Foundation at Virginia Tech, as last weekend vandals replaced the Pride flags on the Wesley building with Confederate flags.

For decades, Wesley at Virginia Tech has been a safe place, a haven of blessing where young people have found rest from the rigors of college life, a steadfast community of love and forgiveness, and a place where people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives have come and experienced the grace of Jesus Christ as they have grown in their knowledge of God and of themselves.

The gospel of love made so evident in the ministry of Wesley at Virginia Tech commands us to pray for ourselves, our neighbors, and even those who wish us harm. It is in this spirit that I ask you to pray for this vital ministry and all the young lives it will touch this year. I also ask you to pray for the perpetrators of this heinous act and for them to experience the transformative love of God, the love that casts out all fear.

As Paul wrote to the church in Rome, may each of us seek to "not be overcome by evil, but to overcome evil with good."

Grace and peace, Doug
