From the District Superintendent

Gifted, Empowered and Equipped Lay Leadership

Posted 17 January, 2017 by Rev. Kathleen Overby Webster

One of the marks of vital congregations (and I would add, vital districts) is "gifted, empowered and equipped lay leadership." The Roanoke District is extremely blessed to have Brenda Brooks, Judy Job, and Gary Morris serving as our 2017 District and Associate District Lay leaders.

The 2016 Book of Discipline (660.1-2) outlines that they  "shall provide for the training of local church lay leaders for their ministries in the local church...shall have responsibility for fostering awareness of the role of the laity both within congregations and through their ministries in the home, workplace, community, and world in achieving the mission of the church, and supporting and enabling lay participation in the planning and decision-making processes of the district and local churches in cooperation with the district superintendent and pastors".

It is a joy to be in partnership with them!

Faithfully,  Kathleen
